Healthcare Is Changing

We have all heard someone sharing their frustrations with the current healthcare system, whether it's not being able to get an appointment in a timely manner, poor care while inpatient, quick primary appointments where the provider doesn't even touch you to assess you, insurance denials—the list could go on for miles.

The deteriorating healthcare system has made it so I would tell anyone who is admitted to the hospital to have someone with them at all times. It's interesting because the system used to support family involvement. Now nurses are so maxed out they don't want another person present barking at them, and the providers don't want educated patients who ask questions or advocate for themselves. They want the patient to sit down, shut up, and do what they tell them. Many times, it is not going to get to the root of the problem; there will be more pills to take and a band-aid on the problem.

If you advocate for yourself in the current healthcare system we have, you are labeled difficult. Many patients know this, so they stay quiet, secretly suffering or not fully comfortable with the plan of care, afraid to say something. That's why private healthcare advocates have become necessary to ensure your loved one or yourself is heard by the care team, your goals of care are respected, and you are making truly informed decisions about your health.
